Pep Guardiola has signed a new contract with Manchester City

Pep Guardiola’s contract extension at Manchester City is "good news" for the Premier League, according to Liverpool manager Arne Slot. Guardiola, who has been with City since 2016, signed a two-year extension that will keep him at the club until 2027. Under his leadership, City has won six Premier League titles, including two narrow victories over Jurgen Klopp’s Liverpool teams.

Slot, who took over at Liverpool in the summer, has guided the Reds to the top of the Premier League, five points clear of City after 11 matches. Reflecting on Guardiola's new deal, Slot said: “It’s good news for City and the league because everyone wants the best managers and players here. He’s definitely one of the best, maybe the best in the league.”

Guardiola’s success, including four consecutive Premier League titles, has cemented his status as one of the league’s top managers. Slot acknowledged that even if Guardiola had chosen to leave, City’s quality players would have ensured they wouldn't have dropped to the bottom of the table.

Before Liverpool's match against Southampton, Slot praised Guardiola as “one of the best managers football has ever had.” Guardiola’s 18 trophies at City, including the 2023 Champions League, reflect his immense impact.

Brighton manager Fabian Hurzeler also lauded Guardiola, calling his extended tenure “the best thing that can happen to the Premier League.” Hurzeler noted Guardiola’s ability to innovate and adapt, offering valuable lessons for other coaches.

Newcastle United’s Eddie Howe added that Guardiola’s influence has revolutionized English football and that his continued presence ensures the Premier League remains the best in the world.
