PayPal experienced a brief global outage on Thursday, confirming a "system issue" affecting multiple services, including account withdrawals and express checkout. The company quickly resolved the technical problem.
Despite the swift fix, many users faced difficulties, with reports of login issues and payment problems. Downdetector received over 7,000 user complaints by 12:12 GMT. The outage began at 10:53 UTC and also impacted PayPal’s cryptocurrency services and Venmo.
Customers took to social media to report the disruption, sharing screenshots of error messages while trying to log in. PayPal, founded in 1998, now has 432 million active accounts as of September 2023.
