| Lando Norris has won three races this season |
Lando Norris secured pole position for the Abu Dhabi Grand Prix, edging out his McLaren teammate Oscar Piastri by 0.209 seconds in a thrilling and unpredictable qualifying session at the season's final race.
Norris' performance puts McLaren in a strong position to secure their first constructors' title since 1998, with Piastri alongside him on the front row.
Carlos Sainz claimed third for Ferrari, who are 21 points behind McLaren heading into Sunday's race. His teammate, Charles Leclerc, will start from 13th after his lap time was deleted for exceeding track limits, compounded by a 10-place grid penalty.
Lewis Hamilton, in his final race for Mercedes, will start from 18th. His chances were ruined when his car collided with a bollard knocked out of place by Kevin Magnussen's Haas, as the Danish driver tried to move aside for Hamilton. "You couldn't make it up," Hamilton remarked, noting he would start 16th due to penalties for Leclerc and Alex Albon of Williams. "It is what it is."
